How does it work?

I always assess the child and family before play therapy takes place to ensure I am the correct person for the role. I have summarised below an example of a referral process:

01

First meeting with parent(s)

I will meet with the parent(s) for an initial consultation, where you will complete a brief Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ).

02

First meeting with school

After confirmation, a meeting with the school, preferably the class teacher and SENCO, will be arranged to ensure a suitable room for confidential therapy, complete SDQ forms, and discuss the child in their school setting.

03

Administration

Including signing contracts, a plan of sessions, dates and family history.

04

Familiarisation

A brief introductory meeting with the child to get acquainted, see the playroom, set expectations, and introduce their special box for storing creations to take home after all sessions. Any available reports are shared at this time.

After we have met and providing everyone is in agreement that I am the right therapist for your child, sessions will be scheduled. A block of 12 sessions is the minimum that I offer but if more are needed, this can be discussed in review sessions.
